Top 5 Warehouse Organization Mistakes (Infographic)

1. Not having a clear labeling system.

Every item in the warehouse should be clearly labeled with a barcode, SKU number, or other identifier so it can be easily located and tracked. Without clear labeling, items can get misplaced or lost.

2. Inefficient aisle layout.

Make sure the layout of aisles, shelves, and bins maximizes space and makes it easy to find items. Group similar items together and leave enough space for workers and equipment to maneuver.

3. Inaccurate inventory records.

Keep accurate records of what you have in stock and where it is located. Use a warehouse management system to scan items in and out and update inventory levels in real-time. Inaccurate records lead to stockouts, excess stock, and inefficiency.

4. Poorly organized storage areas.

Designate specific areas or shelves for different item types. For example, have separate areas for small parts, large equipment, raw materials, and finished goods. This makes it easier to find what you need quickly.

5. No standard storage procedures.

Establish standard procedures for how and where items should be stored. Train your warehouse team on the procedures and enforce them consistently. This ensures items are stored correctly and can be located efficiently.
